چکیده

Wireless networks are becoming more and more common in today’s networking environment. One of the earliest of the IEEE standards for wireless networks is the IEEE 802.11 standard. Most communications in an 802.11 network use the Distributed Coordination Function (DCF). Unfortunately, the 802.11 DCF was not designed with Quality of Service (QoS) in mind. However, as more and more applications tend to be run on the 802.11 network, there is a growing demand for QoS, even in the DCF. Recently researchers have emulated a shortest job first scheduling policy by using a new resetting backoff technique in DCF. In this paper, we take advantage of this new backoff technique to provide a new level of QoS to the DCF of the IEEE 802.11 wireless networks. To the authors knowledge this is the first work to address scheduling Diffserv traffic classes in a wireless network environment.

Study of Quality of Service by using 802.11e

Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) are one of the fastest growing wireless access technologies. The IEEE 802.11 Standard doesn’t support any QoS mechanisms. IEEE 802.11 MAC layer supports two basic access mechanisms, DCF (Distributed Coordination Function) and PCF (Point Coordination Function). The EDCA mechanism of the IEEE 802.11e standard provides QoS support through service differentiatio...

A finite-source feedback queueing network as a model for the IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function

The most mature medium access control protocol for wireless local area networks is the IEEE 802.11 standard. The primary access mode of this protocol is based on the mechanism of carrier sense multiple access with binary exponential backoff. We develop a finite-source feedback queueing model for this access mode. In this model we derive expressions for the throughput and the first moment of the...

Performance Analysis of Wireless Ad-Hoc Network Based on EDCA IEEE802.11e

IEEE 802.11e is the enhanced version of the IEEE 802.11 MAC dedicated to provide Quality of Service of wireless network. It supports QoS by the service differentiation and prioritization mechanism. Data traffic receives different priority based on QoS requirements. Fundamentally, applications are divided into four Access Categories (AC). Each AC has its own buffer queue and behaves as an indepe...
